About Us:

The Bishop Mural Society was incorporated in 1997 to display our heritage in a spectacular outdoor art gallery surrounded by natural beauty. Fifteen colorful mural sites showcase the fascinating history of Inyo County on buildings throughout the city. Our most recent achievement is a ten by fifteen foot natural history mural of 421 sculpted ceramic tiles and mosaic, created by 110 community members.

The Bishop Mural Society established our city as a mural destination by producing professional, historically accurate, visually and artistically excellent quality murals. Bishop is a friendly place where a spectacular natural environment with outstanding recreational opportunities is complemented by beautiful murals. A Public Art Symposium was hosted here in 2005 for the California Public Art and Mural Society, of which Bishop Mural Society is a founding member.

Our Vision:

The Bishop Mural Society envisions a diverse and vibrant community where an engaged population appreciates and supports public art.  We imagine a human environment as inviting as our natural one, where a culture of creativity celebrates the region’s historic and artistic achievements along with its abundance of natural beauty.

We imagine partnering with visual and performing artists to educate and inspire our citizens, and with local business and service clubs to promote a healthy tourist economy. As an isolated community 3 hours from any metropolitan area, we have the challenge of keeping our local culture fresh for ourselves and to attract new and repeat visitors. We encourage you to visit our town and enjoy our palette of wonders.
